Open all year round.
Area Description:
Primarily chalk grassland bordered by woodland and scrub with a disused chalk pit located at the south eastern corner of the reserve.
Park up at the side of the road, a few steps and the open grassy areas are there to be explored. |
Best times to visit:
Spring and summer for the flora and fauna with autumn liable to throw up some nice grassland fungi.
Key Flora:
Calcium loving plants such as Common Milkwort, Small Scabious, Marjoram and Slender Bedstraw. The main draw however are the Orchids with Late Spider, Fly, Common Spotted, Musk, Lady and Monkey all glorious finds and worth visiting the reserve for. Cowslip, Columbine and Slender Bedstraw are also worth seeking out.
Adders Tongue Fern is also present.
Key Fauna:
Butterflies are represented by nice species such as Chalkhill Blue, Brown Argus, Marbled White and Ringlet.
Hawfinch, Nightingale, Green Woodpecker, Sparrowhawk, Yellowhammer, Linnet and Garden Warbler are worth keeping a look out for.
Common Lizards are also present.
